1. Scope and controller
This Privacy Policy applies to SunUp Weather, displayed as SunUp, with Android package name com.veromtec.sunup, published by Veromtec.
Veromtec / Roman Liskin is responsible for the app-specific processing described in this policy. Independent services such as Google, weather providers, Unsplash, TimeZoneDB, and WhatsApp process information under their own privacy policies when their services are used.
SunUp is primarily a client-side application. Routine weather, geocoding, imagery, advertising, and billing requests are made from your device directly to the relevant provider. Veromtec does not operate a user-account system or a cloud backend that receives your favourites, app settings, or routine weather requests in the reviewed version.
2. Plain-language summary
3. Information SunUp accesses or processes
3.1 Location and geocoding
When you choose a current-location feature and grant permission, SunUp may access approximate or precise location, including latitude and longitude. It may use Android's location and reverse-geocoding services to derive a place name. The app stores the most recently resolved place and coordinates locally so current-location weather, widgets, and notifications can continue to work.
SunUp does not continuously monitor your GPS position. In the reviewed version, it does not declare Android's background-location permission. Scheduled background updates use the last coordinates already saved on the device.
3.2 Search terms, selected places, and favourites
When you search for a location, the text you enter may be sent to Open-Meteo's geocoding service or WeatherAPI's search service. Selected place names, coordinates, and favourites are stored locally to provide search history, saved locations, weather retrieval, and widget configuration.
3.3 Weather, air quality, pollen, alerts, sunrise, and time zone
To return weather-related information, SunUp sends the selected coordinates and request parameters to the active provider. Depending on configuration, this may include Open-Meteo, MET Norway, WeatherAPI, and TimeZoneDB. Those providers also receive ordinary network information such as your IP address, request time, and technical headers.
Weather responses, alert identifiers, and related results may be cached locally for offline display, widget refresh, duplicate-alert prevention, and faster loading.
3.4 Preferences, cache, and local files
SunUp stores app information locally, including:
- temperature, wind, precipitation, time, and date-format preferences;
- language, text scale, theme, colour, image source, and dashboard layout;
- last selected location, last known current location, favourites, and provider choices;
- weather and image caches;
- widget configuration and data displayed by home-screen widgets;
- notification settings, last notification dates, and identifiers used to avoid repeating the same alert; and
- remove-ads entitlement status and associated local purchase state.
3.5 Background updates, notifications, and widgets
If enabled, Android WorkManager may run scheduled jobs that retrieve weather using saved coordinates. SunUp can display ongoing weather, morning or evening summaries, and active weather-alert notifications. Notification payloads and home-screen widgets may include a location name, coordinates, temperature, condition, wind, UV, or forecast data and may be visible to anyone who can view your lock screen or launcher.
3.6 Optional Unsplash imagery
If network photography is enabled and an Unsplash access key is configured, SunUp requests weather-related images from Unsplash. Unsplash and its image-delivery infrastructure receive ordinary network data such as your IP address and request information. SunUp caches downloaded images locally. In the reviewed implementation, the precise GPS coordinates are not intentionally added to the Unsplash request.
3.7 Google AdMob advertising
SunUp displays Google AdMob banner and interstitial advertisements unless ads are disabled by an active remove-ads entitlement. The Google Mobile Ads SDK may automatically collect and share IP address, app launches and interactions, ad views and taps, diagnostic and performance information, Android advertising ID, app set ID, and other device or account identifiers where applicable. Google uses this information for advertising, analytics, measurement, service delivery, and fraud prevention.
Google may infer a general location from your IP address. In the reviewed code, SunUp does not intentionally pass your precise GPS coordinates or searched location to Google AdMob. Ads may be personalised or non-personalised depending on applicable law, consent choices, device settings, Google account settings, and Google's eligibility rules.
3.8 Google Play remove-ads purchase
SunUp offers a Google Play product identified as remove_ads_monthly. Google Play processes the transaction and may collect billing, account, device, tax, fraud-prevention, and transaction information under Google's policies. SunUp receives product details, purchase status, a purchase identifier or verification value, restore status, and related entitlement information. The app stores the entitlement, purchase identifier, and verification time locally. Veromtec does not receive your full payment-card number through the app.
3.9 Support communications
If you contact Veromtec by email or use the in-app WhatsApp issue-report link, Veromtec receives the information you choose to provide. This may include your email address, phone number or profile details visible through WhatsApp, message content, screenshots, app version, device information, location information, logs, or other diagnostic details you voluntarily include. WhatsApp separately processes communications sent through its service.
4. Third-party services
Depending on the features you use and the app's configuration, SunUp may communicate with:
- Google AdMob for banner and interstitial advertising, advertising measurement, diagnostics, and fraud prevention.
- Google Play Billing for the remove-ads product, purchase restoration, and subscription or entitlement management.
- Android location and geocoding services for device location and place-name resolution.
- Open-Meteo for forecasts, air quality, pollen, UV, and geocoding.
- MET Norway for weather forecasts and sunrise data.
- WeatherAPI for weather, search, air quality, and alert data when configured.
- TimeZoneDB for optional time-zone resolution when configured.
- Unsplash for optional network background photography when configured.
- WhatsApp if you choose to send an issue report through the in-app support link.
These services control their own processing, retention, security, and international transfers. Their current policies are available below:
5. Purposes and legal bases
SunUp and its service providers process information for the following purposes:
- provide forecasts, environmental data, location search, alerts, notifications, widgets, and offline functionality;
- remember your preferences and selected locations;
- display and measure ads, prevent advertising fraud, and fund app operation;
- process, restore, and remember the remove-ads entitlement;
- maintain security, diagnose technical failures, and prevent abuse;
- respond to support, legal, and privacy requests; and
- comply with legal obligations and enforce applicable terms.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, processing may rely on: your consent, including permission or advertising-consent choices; performance of the service or transaction you requested; legitimate interests in operating, securing, supporting, and funding the app; and compliance with legal obligations. You may withdraw consent for future processing where consent is the basis, although this does not affect prior lawful processing.
7. Retention and deletion
Local app data
Favourites, saved coordinates, preferences, notification state, widget configuration, and purchase-entitlement state generally remain on the device until you change or delete them, clear SunUp's storage, or uninstall the app. Weather, search, and image caches expire or are replaced according to cache settings, although cached files may remain for days or weeks to support offline use.
Support communications
Veromtec may retain support and privacy correspondence for as long as reasonably necessary to answer your request, maintain records, prevent abuse, resolve disputes, and protect legal rights. You may request deletion, subject to legal or security retention requirements.
Third-party retention
Google, weather providers, Unsplash, TimeZoneDB, WhatsApp, and other independent services retain information under their own policies. Removing SunUp does not automatically delete information retained by those services.
How to delete local data
- Remove individual favourites or change settings inside SunUp where controls are available.
- Use Android Settings → Apps → SunUp → Storage → Clear storage/data to remove local app data.
- Uninstall SunUp to remove its ordinary private app storage from the device.
- Manage or cancel the remove-ads product through Google Play.
- Contact veromtec@gmail.com to request deletion of support information held by Veromtec.
SunUp does not provide a SunUp account, so there is no separate SunUp account to delete in the reviewed version.
8. Permissions and privacy choices
- Location: grant or deny approximate or precise location through Android settings. You can use manually selected locations without current-location access.
- Notifications: enable or disable notification permission and individual SunUp notification features through Android and in-app settings.
- Background work: turn off ongoing notifications or related update options in SunUp. Android may also restrict background activity or battery usage.
- Widgets: remove a widget from the launcher or change its configured location. Remember that widget content can be visible on the home screen.
- Network imagery: select bundled imagery instead of optional Unsplash photography.
- Advertising: use Android and Google ad settings to reset or delete the advertising ID and control ad personalisation. Where the app presents a legally required consent message, use its privacy choices to select or withdraw consent.
- Remove ads: purchase or restore the Google Play remove-ads product where available.
Disabling a permission or feature may limit the related functionality but should not prevent use of unrelated app features.
9. Privacy rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, withdrawal of consent, or information about disclosures and targeted advertising. You may also have the right to complain to a competent data-protection authority.
Much of SunUp's information exists only on your device and is not available to Veromtec. For that information, use the app and Android deletion controls described above. For support information held by Veromtec, send a request to veromtec@gmail.com and identify SunUp and the nature of your request. Reasonable identity verification may be required.
Requests concerning data controlled by Google, a weather provider, Unsplash, TimeZoneDB, or WhatsApp should also be directed to that provider using the rights mechanisms in its privacy policy.
10. Security
SunUp uses Android app storage and HTTPS endpoints for the reviewed network services. The Google Mobile Ads SDK states that its collected user data is encrypted in transit using TLS. Veromtec applies reasonable measures appropriate to the app's design, but no device, network transmission, cache, third-party service, or electronic storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
Do not include sensitive personal information in a support message unless it is necessary for the request. Lock-screen notifications and home-screen widgets may expose weather or location information to other people who can see your device.
11. Children's privacy
SunUp is a general-audience weather utility and is not directed to children under 13 or the minimum age required by local law. Veromtec does not knowingly ask children to create an account or submit personal information. Parents or guardians who believe a child has sent personal information to Veromtec may contact veromtec@gmail.com to request review and deletion where required.
12. International processing
Third-party providers operate in multiple countries. Information sent to Google, weather providers, Unsplash, TimeZoneDB, or WhatsApp may be processed outside your country of residence, including in countries with different data-protection laws. Each provider is responsible for the transfer mechanisms and safeguards described in its policy. Veromtec support correspondence may also be processed where Veromtec and its service providers operate.
13. Weather and safety notice
14. Changes to this policy
Veromtec may update this Privacy Policy when SunUp's features, permissions, providers, SDKs, legal requirements, or data practices change. The effective date at the top will be revised. Material changes may also be communicated through the app, the Google Play listing, or the Veromtec website where appropriate.
